Dental neglect in young adults is emerging public health concern. This age group often priortizes academics , careers and social-life over routine dental care leading to delayed treatment and progression of preventable conditions .

Common causes includes lack of awareness , irregular dental visits , poor oral hygiene practices , frequent consumption of junk food and sugary beverages , smoking etc. Financial constraints and dental anxiety may also contributes.

Consequences of neglect includes dental caries , early onset of periodontal diseases, halitosis , enamel erosion and even tooth loss. Beyond oral complications poor oral health may impact confidence ,social interactions and systemic health.

Early education , preventive counselling and regular dental checkups are essential to reduce dental neglect and promote long term overall health.

The first thing is that this generation needs is proper awareness that makes them include this practice of oral hygiene as a habit they include in their daily routine and not just feel it as a burdensome activity they have to get done when they are tired.

This hits close to reality. Young adults often ignore dental care because nothing “hurts” yet … and that’s the trap.
