Complete Blood Count (CBC)

A complete blood count (CBC) test gives your doctor important information about the types and numbers of cells in your blood, especially red blood cells and their percentage (hematocrit) or protein content (hemoglobin), white blood cells, and platelets. The results of a CBC may help diagnose conditions like anemia, infection, and other disorders. The platelet count and plasma clotting tests (prothrombin time, partial thromboplastin time, and thrombin time) may be used to evaluate bleeding and clotting disorders.

Your doctor may also perform a blood smear, which involves examining your blood cells under a microscope. In a normal blood smear, red blood cells appear as regular, round cells with a pale center. Variations in the size or shape of these cells may suggest a blood disorder.

Amazing explanation! CBC is one of the most important blood tests that every good doctor should know how to interpret. It can help you get ahead of not just diseases like anemia or low blood hemoglobin but sometimes even rare blood cancers like leukemia or multiple myeloma.

Well explained. CBC is basic test which helps to determine many blood related conditions like anemia, bleeding and clotting time , any infection, bacterial or parasitic or viral or allergy. Overall status and well being of an individual is checked and we get clear picture

Awareness about what these results from CBC test mean can empower patients to take timely action and understand their health better.

A CBC is a very helpful test because it gives doctors clear insight into your overall blood health. With tools like the blood smear, they can quickly spot and address any potential concerns early.

Yes a complete blood count - a very useful ,a basic investigation which will guide us through the further management and treatment. It will give us a basic idea about the Hb concentration of the patient along with reticulocyte ,RDW ,MCHC which will help to distinguish a active bleeding and a chronic one.But they need further investigations such as peripheral smear - to identify any hemoparasites is there or not ,to know whether the RBC were normocytic or macro/microcytic ,iron profile - in case of microcytic hypochromic anemia.

It will show us the total WBC count with differential counts too which will help us to treat the patient whether it is infectious or inflammatory. But to get a clear plan on management of a patient most of practioners rely on cbc as a basic one
