Common misconceptions about Medicine and health

As healthcare professionals, we often see patients misusing medicines because of common misconceptions. Here are a few dangerous myths—and the facts we all should know:

Myth: Antibiotics cure colds and flu.
Fact: Antibiotics work only against bacterial infections—not viruses. Misuse fuels antibiotic resistance, which kills over 1.3 million people annually.

Myth: Herbal means harmless.
Fact: Natural doesn’t always mean safe. For example, St. John’s Wort can reduce birth control effectiveness and increase bleeding with some meds.

Myth: You can stop your meds once you feel better.
Fact: Incomplete antibiotic courses can lead to resistant bacteria. Skipping chronic meds can have serious consequences, like stroke.
