Clinical Exposure at GMC vs at AIIMS

Is it true that newer AIIMS opened in 2018 n 2019 have less patient load thereby giving less clinical exposure than those well established Government Medical Colleges?

It’s often true. Newer AIIMS, especially those recently opened, might have a lower patient load initially compared to well-established Government Medical Colleges. This can mean less diverse clinical exposure in the early years as they build their infrastructure and patient trust. However, AIIMS tags still offer unique academic and research opportunities.

Not sure about the current affairs of newer AIIMSes. But will like to hear from others.

While it’s true that newer AIIMS may initially see fewer patients, they’re rapidly evolving. Many now attract complex cases, have advanced facilities, and offer early exposure to research and modern protocols. So while traditional GMCs may offer volume, AIIMS institutions balance it with academic rigor and innovation.

Yeah, that’s actually true to an extent.

The newer AIIMS (like ones opened around 2018–2019) are still building up their infrastructure, departments, and reputation so naturally, patient load is lower compared to older, well-established government medical colleges (like MAMC, KGMU, or older AIIMS). Less crowd means slightly less hands-on exposure, especially in OPDs and emergencies.

BUT here’s the flip side:
You might get more individual attention from faculty, better chances in research, newer equipment, and way fewer students fighting over one patient.

Have heard from both, newer AIIMS and older ones. The old ones are well established in their areas and are preferred by the population mostly. Where as the newer ones still have to go for a long run and would turn fruitful in upcoming years.
