Citrizine vs Levocetirizine

Both are second-generation antihistamines, widely used to manage:

  1. Allergic rhinitis
  2. Itchy skin and rashes
  3. Red or watery eyes
  4. Insect bites and seasonal allergies

But here’s where it gets interesting

  1. Levocetirizine is the active R-enantiomer of Cetirizine. This makes it more selective and often considered better tolerated in patients with lLiver issues.
  2. Cetirizine, on the other hand, has a slightly stronger antihistamine effect but may be a bit more sedating for some patients.

Adult Dosage . Cetirizine:5-10 mg once daily • Levocetirizine: 5 mg once daily

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Both are Category B-> considered safe during pregnancy and compatible with breastfeeding.

Precautions
Cetirizine: use with caution in liver & kidney disease .
Levocetirizine: caution mainly in kidney disease

Quick Brand Reminder:
Cetirizine → Zyrtec .
Levocetirizine → Xyzal

Takeaway:
• If stronger effect is needed → Cetirizine may be preferred.
• If safety in liver disease is a concern → Levocetirizine is the safer pick.

Levocetirizine is more selective and binds more strongly, so smaller doses are effective.

Informative!

True, thanks for sharing.

Levocetrizine works best for me

Citrizine is more economical than levocetrizine. But levocetrizine is more potent and require less dose and less sedating.

well explained

Great comparison! Cetirizine sometimes causes mild sedation.
