Cushing’s syndrome is caused by excess cortisol levels, which can result from:

  1. Prolonged use of corticosteroid medications
  2. Pituitary tumors (Cushing’s disease)
  3. Adrenal gland tumors or hyperplasia
  4. Ectopic ACTH-producing tumors (e.g., lung cancer)

These conditions lead to an overproduction of cortisol, causing characteristic symptoms like weight gain, hypertension, and mood changes.
