Career breaks are the gaps a professional takes from his employment for his personal or family reasons or for professional developments. Nowadays, it can be seen that individuals with career breaks are facing challenges in their future job opportunities. Some organizations just focuses on the skills and qualifications of individuals while some give emphasis on a continuous history of employment as well.
Do you think career break is turning to be a hindrance for an individual’s future growth opportunities? Share your views about it.
No , I don’t think that career break is a hindrance to carrer growth because most of the organizations now focuses on skill rather than continuous history of employment
Yes, career breaks can have a significant impact, especially for women who initially step away thinking it will be short-term, only for it to extend due to maternity and the responsibilities of raising children. But even so, we should view it as a challenge that tests our resilience and integrity and embrace it as an opportunity to begin our second innings with renewed purpose.
In the life of a woman, career break mostly comes either after marriage, or after having a child or can be due to a health issue or sometimes as a care-giver for someone in the family. I feel it is perfectly ok to take it if the situation in life demands it, as doing life is important first. These days there are many women who are constantly working for years in industries without taking any break and at advanced age they suffer from certain lifestyle diseases/mental health concerns and that’s how the situation is going ahead. With a career break, definitely the preferences for a job decreases, but one can keep up-skilling through out during this time, can stay updated with the current job market, can do several certifications and online internships (available in India and outside India). These days remote opprtunities are there, part-time opprtunities are available, and also freelancing can be done. Besides, Government of India has many fellowships and scholarships for women with a career break and several industries give chance to women too for their promotion, but having skills are important, as if the skills are updated, you can find your place anywhere.
No, i dont think so! May be they are focusing on talent and resume? I am not sure, even i am in a job hunt process!
Yes, those who take career break faces challenges mostly mothers who take these career break for their kids and when they want to restart their career noone wants to give a second chance just because of the gap in their career.
most of what I’ve seen
Career breaks are seen as a hindrance.
Especially for women
true we do need to explain them all the circumstance and still they judge us like worthless
Career can be essential when a person truly feels he need it. It can sometimes leads to great opportunity and sometimes hindrance depends on the situation, person
In my opinion, career gaps are essential to give time and nurture aspects of yourself and life that have been ignored or delayed whilst UG or strenuous work life. It gives you time to do justice to other aspects that matter too and then come back with a clearer mind and double the energy.
