Caffeine & Ayurveda – A Balanced Sip

Ayurveda doesn’t ban caffeine, but it reminds us that anything in excess can throw the body out of balance.
Coffee and tea are considered Rajasik — they wake up the mind, but over time can leave you restless, acidic, or sleepless.

For most adults, about 3 cups a day is reasonable — but your body knows best, so pay attention to its signals.
:check_mark: Add a pinch of cardamom to help cut the acidity.
:check_mark: Avoid drinking it on an empty stomach to protect digestion (Agni).
:check_mark: Try swapping one cup for calming herbal teas like tulsi or chamomile.

True energy doesn’t just come from your cup — it comes from good sleep, wholesome meals, and a peaceful mind.

I usually have coffee just once a day, and honestly, I can survive perfectly fine without it. But I know some people who feel like they need it to function. I personally feel we shouldn’t get addicted to anything, no matter how beneficial it is. Yes, coffee or tea do have their perks — they can reduce headaches, stimulate the central nervous system, improve alertness, and even lift your mood. But if we cross the limit, it can also disturb sleep, cause acidity, or make us restless.

For me, it’s about enjoying it in moderation and listening to my body. Real energy still comes from proper sleep, healthy food, and a calm mind.

Exactly, having tea or coffee is fine, as long as it is taken in moderation. I too usually depend on coffee during times of stress or headache or when I need to concentrate, but after reading several posts on caffeine and its effects, especially from Medbound, I started limiting my intake. And as always said, anything excess is harmful.

I have seen people drink tea on an empty stomach. Not a great fan of it, I always get gut issues after drinking tea. So i totally avoided it. It will cause acidity.
