Burnout in Dental Professionals

Burnout is increasingly recognized among dental professionals due to the demanding nature of clinical practice. Dentistry requires precision,prolonged concentration,physical endurance, and continuous patient interaction , often under time pressure . These factors combined with financial stress , medico-legal comcerns and high patient expectations , contribute to emotional exhaution and professional fatigue.

Common signs include chronic stress , irritability , reduced job satisfaction , decreased productivity and depersonalization towards patients. Physical symptoms such as backpain , headaches and sleep disturbances are common.

If left unaddressed , burnout can compromise clinical performance , patient care and personal well-being. Preventive strategies include work-life balance ,regular excercise , peer support ,continuing education and seeking professional counselling when needed.
