Elderly people should be educated about the processes for claiming insurance and pension when needed, especially during medical emergencies and illnesses. I am sharing an experience that I had recently.
Recently, a healthy person had a medical emergency and was operated on, and was bedridden. The patient couldn’t even move her hands and legs. To receive pension from the treasury, the patient must either sign or appoint a nominee, which the patient has forgotten to do. Treasury and bank rules are strict.
Since it was an emergency, we had to clear a lot of formalities to get the amount from the treasury. We had to take her thumb impressions and get attested by doctors to certify that she is critically ill to sign the check. This happened to a healthy person who never thought that such an emergency was going to happen to her.
Also, the patient didn’t have an ATM card at the bank. This was also a constraint in getting the amount due to her.
Most of the elderly people are unaware of these formalities. Only during emergencies, this will crop up for which others cannot provide much help. Also, elderly people have lot of insurance claims which they themselves or their children should be made aware of.
It helps patients understand proper medication use, side effects, and adherence importance. Awareness of medical insurance ensures financial protection, access to quality care, and reduced treatment burden.
you are well explained about health insurance and what are the conflict will arise during emergency situation. I also gone through this so i can feel for my grandmother. The pension policy and government schemes are so strict like if the patient is bedridden or not even move their hands too they won’t accept any reasons. They just want their presence or a nominee to get this.
This highlights the crucial need for elderly people to be proactively educated about pension, insurance, and banking formalities to avoid delays during unforeseen medical emergencies.
Seeba, that is such a crucial reminder. Simply because necessary documentation and authorizations were not set up beforehand, many families encounter unforeseen difficulties during medical emergencies. It is essential to educate senior citizens and their families about banking access, insurance, and pension procedures. Stress can be significantly reduced during stressful situations by taking proactive measures like designating nominees and keeping ATM cards on hand.
A much needed one to be aware of .I also saw few of our patients went through the same protocols due to their unawareness regarding these things .In a world of uncertainty ,will create awareness about these things and surely it will make someone life a better
Thank you for spreading awareness among elderly peoples. I hope the process of insurance claim approval will expedite once it start to reach every one.
