A 2025 study compared the antimicrobial effect of Art-Dentale Expert mouth rinse (containing eucalyptus, thyme, and pomegranate extracts) and chlorhexidine mouthwash. In the study they PCR diagnostic test was used to evaluated the effectiveness of Art-Dentale Expert mouthwash against major periodontopathogens in patients with mild chronic generalized periodontitis.
Art-Dentale Expert mouthrinse is a novel herbal formulation containing extracts of eucalyptus leaves, thyme herb, and pomegranate pericarp in equal parts, combined with a water–propylene glycol blend and standard stabilizing agents. This is manufactured by “KorolevPharm” LLC (Russia)
Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the supporting structures of the teeth and it can lead. The disease is a result of interaction between bacteria in dental biofilm and the host immune response. Red complex gram negative anaerobic species particularly Porphyromonas gingivalis, Tannerella forsythia, and Treponema denticola are the most virulent periodontal pathogens.
Chlorhexidine is considered as the gold standard for suppressing these pathogens along with mechanical oral hygiene measure, but their long-term use may be associated with adverse effects (tooth staining, altered taste, mucosal irritation).Hence more natural and less side effect alternatives are being studied extensively
The study results showed that there is significant reduction in red complex bacteria after regular use of Art-Dentale Expert mouth rinse for 6 months. However further evaluation with large sample size has to be gone to reach a conclusive result.
