Are We Overlooking the Role of Sleep in Preventive Medicine?

We often focus on diet, exercise, and medications when talking about health, but sleep is rarely given equal importance. Poor sleep is linked with higher risk of diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and even weakened immunity. In medical practice, we talk about early screening and preventive measures, but how often do we counsel patients on proper sleep hygiene as seriously as we do on diet or exercise?

Do you think sleep should be officially included as a “vital sign” in routine clinical assessments, just like blood pressure, heart rate, or BMI?
Would love to hear your thoughts on whether we, as healthcare professionals, are underestimating this silent pillar of preventive medicine.
