Do you know, humans and stars share a chemical connection? They have almost 97% of the same atoms. Carbon, nitrogen, hydrogen, oxygen, and iron these are the building blocks of the human body. These life-enabling elements were made inside ancient stars. When these stars exploded as supernovae, the elements spread into the universe, which later formed Earth and everything on it, including us.
Researchers have found one more similarity between humans and stars. They found that the outer layers of a neutron star have the same shape as our cellular membranes. They called it ‘nuclear pasta’.
Neutron stars contain a dense group of protons and neutrons on their outer surface. The strong nuclear force and the electromagnetic force create this pasta-like structure, which is similar in shape to our endoplasmic reticulum.
PS: A neutron star is the collapsed core of a massive supergiant star.
