AdFalciVax is India’s first homegrown vaccine that is being developed. It is a recombinant vaccine designed to target two stages of transmission :
- Pre- erythrocytic stage - Blocking this stage is the prevention of malaria altogether
- Sexual transmission stage - targeting this helps in controlling malaria in the community level as it blocks transmission back to mosquitos
Targeting both the stages gives both individual protection and community benefits.
The vaccine candidate is in its early research and development phases and is not yet available for any clinical use. It is produced using Lactococcus lactis which is a safe food grade bacterium and the vaccine remains stable for over nine months at room temperature which is very beneficial. The preclinical trials show great efficacy.
