Is there anyone who changed from allied health science or medical background into management professions by pursuing mba. Could you please tell your experience and steps you had taken to deviate from the traditional career path?
Many people do it. I personally know many of my seniors and juniors those who took such a path. Pursuing an MBA or MHA or even MPH opens the doorway for more incredible administrative positions of research positions within the institutions where already working or elsewhere.
I know one hematologist and another guy nephrologist doing an MBA and and then in fact switching to industry (biotech). I’m talking about the USA, but I’m sure such to exist here too in India.
In India also it is possible to do a MBA healthcare, MPH and start a career in corporate. Pharma companies and research firms hire you for various roles.
I know one who has done BSc Radiology and lateron done MHA from TISS, working at managerial position at one of the big Corporate hospital.
I come from a dental background and am currently in my 2nd year of an MBA in Healthcare Management. Shifting from clinical practice to management was a big decision, but I was driven by a passion for system-level impact. Along the way, I focused on learning analytics, operations, and healthcare systems, while gaining hands-on exposure through internships. It’s been a rewarding journey so far—happy to share more if anyone’s considering a similar path!
In the healthcare field this deviation occurs and MBA is generally a secure path which students commonly take to discover their potential in any other field like administrative work and all. Nowadays MBA and healthcare having integrated together showcase the students ability in administrative business roles and decorated healthcare sectors.
its a good option…but its imp to know why u want to switch and not just for a better pay…management roles demand a slightly different set of skills and mindset. Without genuine interest or motivation, it’s easy to feel stuck or burned out…
True! Leaving behind clinical skills too early may have its own disadvantages.
