In recent times, we know the gut isn’t just about digestion. Gut health has been gaining attention.
We are familiar with probiotics, prebiotics, and synbiotics. One more addition to that is Postbiotics
Postbiotics are defined as preparations of inanimate microorganisms or their components that confer health benefits to the host by the ISAPP.
Postbiotic components include metabolites, enzymes, cell components, short-chain fatty acids, and cell-wall fragments, which are produced during microbial activity.
In simple words, Probiotics are the good bacteria, prebiotics are the food they feed on, and postbiotics are the useful substances from these bacteria.
Some advantages of postbiotics over probiotics include stability, shelf life, and they may be safer, since they do not contain any live microorganisms
Research suggests that postbiotics may have potential health benefits, such as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory actions.
The findings and research on postbiotics and their mechanisms still need to be worked on.
What are your thoughts on Postbiotics? Can it be another breakthrough in gut health?
