Why Pharm.D is not much popular in India? Is it a better option on the basis of current scenario?

Pharm.D is a powerful degree—but only if you use it strategically.
In India, it’s underrated, underutilized, and needs reform—but globally, it has respect and value

If you have passion + long-term vision + willingness to go beyond the textbook, it can be a great choice

As a Pharm D graduate, I feel that this course is still not very popular in India mainly because many people don’t understand the role of a clinical pharmacist. Most think pharmacy is only about working in a medical shop. But in reality, Pharm D gives us knowledge to work in hospitals, review prescriptions, counsel patients, and be part of the healthcare team. The awareness is slowly growing, especially in cities and private hospitals. If more importance is given to clinical pharmacy and if job opportunities increase, then Pharm D will surely become a better and respected career option in the future.

It is definitely a significant field, but the awareness around this field is minimal in India, as career options seem limited to most people. It is mostly an intermediate field between medical and biological sciences and that’s why many have confusion regarding choosing this one over the other two which are more popular names among people. Besides, career directions and scopes are limited is what mostly people feel about this field in comparison with the other two field mentioned above.

Pharm D and pharm B has a number of job openings across different pharmaceutical companies. There are also many research opportunities available across various institutions. You just need to know where and how to look at.

Personally, I believe it’s not a better option, even considering the current scenario. The recognition that the designation deserves is still lacking in India. People are not well-informed about what it truly entails, and the job opportunities available do not align with the responsibilities they should carry. While it’s in the early stages of development, it will take a considerable amount of time to fully evolve.
