Why Do Indians Still Fear the Dentist’s Chair?

Despite advances in painless dentistry, 70–80% of patients delay dental visits until pain becomes unbearable.

Reasons?

  • Cultural belief: “Teeth problems are minor”

  • Cost concerns

  • Fear of drills and needles

  • Lack of awareness that oral infections can trigger heart disease, diabetes complications, even preterm labor

The result: Tooth extractions instead of preventive care, and oral health becoming a nationally ignored crisis.

If dental care were made as routine as a blood pressure check, how much chronic disease burden could India cut down?

Lack of awareness is a concern thatbhas to be adressed

I didnt know that there could be a potential correlation between chronic disease and dental health, if more people were made aware of this, it would lead to significant improvements in the state of national health.

Lack of knowledge and its bit painful if not done properly

Making dental care routine could prevent so many chronic health issues. Early checkups mean fewer extractions and better overall health for everyone.

It’s still not regular practice of patients to visit dentist as they go to a physician. And when they do, lack of experience causes fear .

Lack of knowledge and inhibitions by assuming are the major reasons.

Loss of one teeth doesn’t impact a person much as he eats with rest of the teeth . Unless aesthetic appearance is damaged or if he suffers from pain , a patient does not visit a dentist
