What your nails say about your health?

1. Brittle Nails – May indicate iron deficiency, thyroid issues, or dehydration.

2. Yellow Nails – Can be a sign of fungal infection, lung problems, or diabetes.

3. White Spots – Often due to minor injuries or zinc/calcium deficiency.

4. Pale or White Nails – May suggest anemia, liver problems, or heart conditions.

5. Blue or Purple Tint – Could signal poor blood circulation or low oxygen levels.

6. Dark Lines – If you notice black or brown lines, get them checked—sometimes they indicate serious conditions.

7. Ridges (Vertical or Horizontal) – May be linked to aging, poor nutrition, or underlying health concerns like psoriasis.

8. Clubbing (Rounded, Curved Nails) – Can be related to lung disease, heart conditions, or digestive disorders.

our nails can show signs of health issues.

Very recently, I read a research article that indicated that, from nails, we can decipher the stress level of a person too through measurement of cortisol levels in the keratin structure of nails. The article also reported that, cortisol levels generally measured through blood tests are much fluctuating and they indicate stress level of someone considering a very small time window and this can give false positive results. Whereas, the nail cortisol concentrations are more stable and they can detect stress within the body considering a large time window giving the bigger picture of stress/anxiety in someone’s mind. The HPA activity (sharp indicator of chronic stress) is also more clearly recorded through nail samples. So, nails can now serve beneficial towards mental health diagnosis too.
