Vaginal discharge is a clear, white fluid that comes out of vagina. It helps in fighting off infections, cleaning, lubricating the vagina . Vaginal discharge is normal and natural process but change in colour, odour, consistency can indicate infection.
Different colours of vaginal discharge and it’s meaning:
- Yellow: A light yellow discharge can be normal but if it’s clumpy like cottage cheese then it might be a result of yeast infection.
- Green: frothy green discharge with fishy odour is an indication of STI called trichomoniasis.
- Gray: gray discharge that is thin and watery with strong fishy smell can be an indication of bacterial vaginosis.
- Brown or red : brown or red discharge is usually related to irregular menstruation or pregnancy.
- Clear or white: normal vaginal discharge is clear and white. But, if the discharge is thicker than usual or causes itching then it may be an indication of yeast infection.Do you know of any other vaginal discharge?
