What are mouth ulcers? Why does it hurt so much?

Let’s talk about mouth ulcers. Mouth ulcers are also known as aphthous ulcers. It is caused by a breach in the epithelium.

They are small, pinpoint lesions mostly occur on lips, cheeks, tongue and floor of mouth. They are small round or oval with a yellowish center and red border. They are usually not contagious.

Ever wondered how can this tiny thing gave us tremendous pain?

Some common triggering factors are:

  • Lip biting/ cheek biting
  • Stress/anxiety
  • Nutritional deficiencies
  • Improper fitting dentures
  • Sharp edge of tooth
  • Improper fitting of denture

Sorting it is a big task as it is not going away anytime soon, some of the treatment tips include:

  • Anesthetic ointments
  • Avoid spicy foods
  • Warm saline gargles
  • Maintain good oral hygiene

It can also happen if you don’t drink enough amount of water, and to prevent it make sure to drink water properly
