Types of dental crowns


There are 3 common types of dental crowns available.
Metal crown - It’s a stainless steel crown.
PFM - It’s a porcelain fused metal crown. It has metal on the inner surface and cermaic tooth colur on the outer surface.
Zirconia - It’s called as all ceramic crown. It is made of Zirconium dioxide, a ceramic powder and matches to the colour of your teeth.

Zirconia crowns are the best for strength, durability and aesthetics(translucency mimics the natural teeth) but its a little expensive..
so if you cant afford you can go for PFM..
But the porcelain coating can chip away and result in exposing the metal core resulting in bad aesthetics. it also causes enamel wear of opposite teeth in contact.
nobody prefers a metal crown these days now due to appearance.

Thats so true. Metal crowns are least preferred. Mostly for posteriors.
