Transgender medicine.

As per certain records following our last census of 2011, the population of India currently rests at a whopping 145 crore…
Out of this, 5.88 lakh is the transgender population.

The number of transgender clinics is … guess?

All across India. A fully-equipped clinic with trained specialists to deal with Transgender reassignment and transition procedures, including proper licensing and follow-ups… are only 14 for the pop. of roughly 6 lakhs.

I would like some opinions as to how transgender medicine and care can be incorporated at a more generalized science, and how long before we meet that criteria?

It’s honestly heartbreaking that only 14 clinics serve nearly 6 lakh people. Transgender care deserves to be part of mainstream medical education and public health policy, because dignity and access shouldn’t be a privilege, they’re a right.

14 clinics for 6 lakhs show that we still have a long way to go. In a country like India which is vast and diverse ,transgender medicine should be seen as one of the basic general medicine practice. The sooner we start incorporating it, the sooner we can provide more inclusive healthcare.

I never thought about it before, but maybe we can focus on making our existing healthcare system more inclusive and welcoming to transgender individuals, rather than creating separate clinics.

Being part of indian population, they should be given equal right for medicine similar to men and women.
When all the developing countries are considering them equals , india should put forward the euqality for them too.

Transgender clinicals is a great initiative for providing comfortable medical care to trans population… It’s a good start , hopefully it goes forward and develop more :raising_hands:
