Great post—very informative. Apart from this, Rh null individuals may have fragile RBCs leading to hemolysis, anemia, and even gallstones, with transfusion remaining a major challenge due to limited compatible donors.

Finding a compatible donor is nearly impossible in emergencies, causes chronic fatigue due to fragile red blood cells, and can lead to serious and life threatening complications during pregnancy.

It won’t be wrong to say that this “Golden blood” is a true universal donor apart from O blood type which we have studied from our textbook. Apart from what you have already mentioned, the complication with this rare blood type will be seen in pregnancy which will be more severe as it lacks all 61 Rh antigens unlike any blood type.

Such an informative post . As many have suggested here, finding a donor at time of emergencies will be a task as there are only 50 people reported to have this blood type. Sending contact information of these 50 people to all the hospital across the globe will be useful. Also informing these people about there special blood type will make them aware of it. This can prevent unnecessary emergencies in them caused by carelessness.

Very true, thank you for sharing

Exactly!!

I think the Indian population hasn’t seen such a case. Never heard or read about it.

Well, it is not a case it is a rare blood type which is completely normal. As fewer than 50 people worldwide are known to have this blood type, and few cases are known in India as well. It surely becomes a case or medical emergency when complications take place.

No doubt, every uniqueness comes with a risk factor!!
