Have you ever mistaken someone for a friend in a crowded place ? Usually, we realize our mistake within seconds. But for people with FREGOLI Syndrome, that feeling doesn’t go away.
FREGOLI Syndrome is a rare neuropsychiatric condition in which a person believes that different people are actually the same individual in disguise. To them, a shopkeeper or a stranger walking on the street, or even their doctor may all seem like one person constantly changing appearance.
This condition can be linked to disorders such as schizophrenia, brain injuries , or other neurological conditions that affect how the brain recognizes faces and identities.
The fact that makes Fregoli syndrome so fascinating is how it reveals the delicate way of our brain which construct reality. We often take recognition for granted, but this syndrome shows that even something so simple as knowing someone’s face depends on complex brain functions working perfectly together. This shows a slight wiring of our brain can affect to our lives to massive extents.
It got me thinking, If our brain helps create our sense of reality, how much of what we see is truly the world , and how much is just the interpretation of our mind ?
