The one habit everyone has:

Everyone in this world has one or more bad habits. It can be from nail biting to telling lies. But what habit am I going to highlight today? Any guesses…?

There was a recent news that reads:

“A 96-year-old man smokes his last cigarette before his heart surgery.”

I was astonished at this news. He was so adamant in his habit that he wanted to take a puff even before surgery.

We all know the effects of smoking:

  1. Lung cancer
  2. COPD
  3. Stroke
  4. Cardiovascular problems
  5. Stains on teeth
  6. Gum problems, periodontitis
  7. Oral cancer

Inspite of knowing all these side effects, people still can’t quit the habit because it gives them an energy boost, confidence, and enjoyment. Nicotine from the smoke leaves tar residues and has a completely disastrous effect.

Quitting the habit isn’t easy, but it has many substitutes like nicotine gums, e-cigarettes, etc. The determination to quit smoking has to come from within the individual. Withdrawal effects are common with habits like smoking or alcoholism, but they can be overcome with support.

So what do you think about this 96-year-old man’s habit?

This rightly emphasizes that quitting starts with personal determination. External tools help, but internal motivation sustains the change.

Awareness is important, but so is empathy. Quitting isn’t about willpower alone … it needs support and structured help.
