The Little Plant That Sat Beside Me

At the beginning of this year, I was not in a good place mentally or physically. I was overwhelmed and needed something to take me away from the thoughts in my mind. So I tried buying indoor plants.

I had never really been a “plant person”. But this time, I brought them into my room with love.

The one I placed in the north direction, right on my table, it became special. I watched it grow. I gave it water, sunlight, care… and silently, it started giving me peace. It sprouted new leaves. The old ones would fall away, it made me a little sad, but I pressed those into books and kept going.

A few days ago, only two leaves were left. A new one was just about to grow in between them. But slowly… the two leaves turned yellow and fell. I tried everything I could to make them stay. But nothing worked.

That’s when I realized I had formed a deep bond with this little life. And now, the corner where it once stood feels empty.

Do you have a similar story? Do you have any tips or ways to help indoor plants thrive longer, especially for beginners like me? I’d love to learn and care better next time.

I have a story but instead of plant that was a dog which made feel like iam luckiest person in the world. It used to wipe my tears whenever i cry it has been the best thing in my life .
You have to grow plants with love you know there is saying that whatever you speak your plant will be able to hear it . Here are some tips i know

  1. Never water them at afternoon or at heavy sunlight it may damage the plants
  2. Never leave the flowers in the plants as it will take all the nutrients from the plant and the plant will die
  3. Don’t over water them . If your moving out for 2 or 3 days water them a little more than usual.
Take good care of plants with love

I am a plant person few of them as my favourite one. When I started planting first time after a month these plants started wilting and died. But after few days I saw new sapling was growing. Sometimes plants die as it completed their life cycle.

Whether you’re nurturing a leafy jungle or just a windowsill buddy, here are some beginner-friendly tips that’ll help your green friends thrive:

  • Know your plant’s light needs: Some love direct sun (like succulents), while others prefer shade (hello, snake plants).
  • Rotate them regularly: Helps them grow evenly instead of leaning toward the light source.
  • Stick your finger in the soil: If it’s dry 1-2 inches down, it’s time to water.
  • Avoid overwatering: It’s the #1 killer of indoor plants. Drainage holes are your best friend!
  • Choose the right pot size: Too small, and roots get cramped. Too big, and soil might stay soggy.
  • Use good quality soil: Opt for potting mix suited to your plant type—cacti need different soil than ferns.

I’m not a plant person, but I want to be one, I like studying botany but i never got a chance to learn, I did joined ecology club during my school time but it didn’t last very long because the teacher got transferred and the new one wasn’t very active. As I belong to a family where farming and love for nature and plants is deeply rooted in our ancestry, whenever I go to my hometown and see my agricultural fields turn into barren lands, I often wonder: did we really upgrade our lifestyle by moving to the city?

I am not a plant person but one thing i learned something from this story.
In humans life everyone has an important person in their life . If we are giving everything that person to stay in our life. But we do not know already that person has decided to leave then he/she will definitely leave. If they want to stay whatever the situation is they will stay.

Dogs can also become our best friends. :face_holding_back_tears: Thank you for sharing the tips.

Ohh is that so? Next time i will definitely not throw it away.

Not a plant person but that’s very sweet and overwhelming. It’s like when you bring a pet for yourself and you don’t know when the bond gets so strong that they are your children now and you have to take care of them and do not want to let them go

Thanks for the detailed explanation! Great help dude!:+1:t2:

I agree with you!

I feel the same sometimes. Moving to the city gave us comfort, but maybe we did lose a deeper connection with nature. It is sad to see our fields unused now.

Yes, When we start to give them love and care, slowly we get attached to them!

Sure!

Indoor plants thrive best in environments that provide partial sunlight and require a moderate amount of water for optimal growth. If you notice the leaves starting to turn yellow, it may be a sign that the plant is experiencing stress due to an excess of water, leading to suffocation of the roots. To keep your plants healthy, it’s advisable to water them only when the top layer of soil feels dry to the touch. Additionally, consider relocating your plant to a brighter spot to ensure it receives adequate sunlight, which can significantly enhance its overall vitality and growth.
