The Generational Toxicity We Don’t Talk About

In many medical schools, toxicity isn’t born every year — it’s inherited. What seniors silently endured, juniors are expected to absorb without question. Speaking up against wrongdoing feels dangerous when personal grudges can quietly influence marks, evaluations, and future opportunities. So students learn to nod “yes” to everything, right or wrong, because survival often depends on silence. And with every generation that accepts this pattern, the cycle tightens its grip even further.

I feel the toxic culture in medical schools just keeps passing down. Seniors endured it, juniors are expected to accept it and speaking up feels risky because marks and evaluations can be affected. Silence becomes survival, and that’s how the cycle keeps repeating.

One of the most common issues in med schools. Nobody speaks up, but it drains your energy and mental health. We don’t know whom to blame, the college management, the seniors or the students who bear the pain.
