I started my career during COVID as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and then as an educator for nearly 5 years. I thoroughly enjoyed that journey but a small incident made me come back to my root.
None of my family members are in the medical field, being the one only who is remotely related to the medical field (Master’s in Biochemistry), they come up to me to explain more about blood test report and scan results.
When a close family member fell ill and I had to stay in the hospital for weeks, I was doing the same. Though the doctors were great, they only visited once a day and the rest of the time I reassured my other family members. Soon people from other beds came to me and asked simple doubts, which kept on increasing. That was the moment I realized that the knowledge I had gained during my education combined with my background in teaching, which demanded breakdown of difficult topics to simple words that everyone can understand; gave me an inner satisfaction that I had long- lost!
Communication is most important aspect in healthcare and during master’s this aspect of explaining and assuring patient and parents regarding treatment plan made me feel intrested in medical communication.
That’s truly a bold step. As always, it reminds us that healthcare isn’t just about treating diseases-- it’s also about helping people understand them better. Turning complex concepts into simple, clear communication makes a real difference.
