I personally thing one should have capacity to understand the situation, based on that apply empathy, sympathy, emotional connection… One wrong step can lead to anxious behaviour of the doctor…
As doctors we excel in the academic but no one teaches us to deal with the patients grief and emotional connection and empathy which comes with patients.
It should be empathy, understanding feeling.
Practically speaking, empathy is the more essential and effective quality for a doctor, though sympathy has its place in certain situations.
Empathy >>> sympathy
I feel empathy is much more needed in a doctor’s profession.
Practically… empathy side should be favoured more by tye doctor because it helps them to truly understand and connect with the patient while maintaining their professionalism.
