Susten a threat to life?

Susten injections are prescribed to in pregnancy, to manage hormonal regulations and imbalance, regulate menstrual problems, or assist in fertility treatments.

They contain progesterone essential for maintaining pregnancy and taking care of reproductive health. But /however the medicine is sometimes misused or taken without medical supervision and consultation due to hesitation and fear ,or misinformation spread in our society.

Use of Susten injections unnecessarily can lead to side effects such as pain at the injection site, dizziness, mood swings, headaches, bloating, breast tenderness, and hormonal disturbances.

It can also lead to miscarriage.

Hormonal medicines are highly affective and never be treated casually by patients without proper consultation or used based on someone else’s experience.

The growing misuse of hormonal medications is leading to use it for miscarriage intentionally .

Pregnancy is related to emotions of people but sometimes it becomes a way of killing a child. So we must be aware about these side effects and as pharmacist we shouldn’t give them such drugs without prescription and guide them for there best!!

I cannot speak on the behalf of pharmacists; however, what you highlighted requires utmost attention. I believe pharmacists need to follow strict protocols regarding prescription medications and OTC medications. When there is no accessibility, patients will naturally turn to Practitioners for prescription of medications. Pharmacists play a vital role in patient safety.

This post clearly explains how hormonal medicines should never be used casually or without proper medical guidence.Unnecessary use of susten can lead to hormonal imbalance, side effects, and emotional as well as physical complications. As pharmacists, we should strictly follow ethical dispensing practices, refuse non- prescription sales when necessary, and provide accurate information to prevent misuse and protect patient health and pregnancy outcomes.

An important awareness to be known by the pharmacists. As a registered pharmacist, I feel like this should be made aware around the pharmacists circle. Pharmacists should ensure proper prescription to be produced by the patients at the time of purchase, check the date of prescription, keep a register for such medication’s purchased and also counsel the patients regarding their side effects. If the patients comes without prescription I will not give them the medication rather advise them to go and consult a doctor regarding their condition.

It depends on whether the patient has a valid prescription, because this is a hormone medication that should be used under medical supervision. Any medication without medical supervision is dangerous.

The medicines should be sold under proper safety precautions as they can be misused. Before dispensing it should be properly enquired why they are taking and should be sold under prescription.

Hormonal injections should be dispensed only when there is a proper authorized prescription. Dispensing such medications without proper authorization can lead to harmful effects.

Pharmacists need to verify the prescription of the patient like how they follow the protocol. I encountered few femaole patient who wanted medication for MTP without a prescription but it’s totally illegal.

Pharmacist plays a great role in patients safety. They should follow strict principles and protocols for prescription. Before dispensing it make an inquiry and must check the prescription.

As pharmacists, our responsibility extends beyond dispensing medicines. Situations involving hormonal therapies remind us that patient counseling, prescription verification, and ethical practice are just as important as the medication itself.
