Govindarajan and his Doctor wife were running a small clinic in their hometown Kovilpatti. They noticed patients were often travelling long distances for MRI and CT scans, frequently delaying treatments due to high cost. Govindarajan decided to bridge this gap by purchasing his first MRI machine from Germany using his savings and with bank loan. His first diagnostic center “Aarthi Scans & Labs” named after his daughter was established in the year 2000, in Tirunelveli.
Aarthi Scans & Labs chose affordability and accessibility by opening many scan centers at a pricing of ₹2500 to ₹3500, while others were costing ₹10000 for scans. They avoid referral fees paid to doctors and focus on patient centric service. The Company’s growth was further accelerated by his son, daughter and son in law who all are Doctors specialized in radiology foreseeing their father’s vision.
They provide 24/7 service with a 30% discount on scans done at night after 8pm, beneficial for working professionals and optimizing the high energy costs associated with the maintenance of MRI machines.
Aarthi scans also offer their own radiology training program and the graduates are deployed in their own scan centers maintaining the operational consistency.
They have invested in AI technologies for chest X-rays and CT scans, installed India’s first helium free 1.5T MRI and automated robotic track for blood tests rather than luxury building aesthetics to keep costs low for patients. They run functional and affordable scan centers prioritizing the low-income people.
Aarthi scans & labs operates in 10+ states, with major stronghold in Tamil Nadu and growing in cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi, Kolkata and Lucknow. As of late 2025, they have expanded to more than 90 full-fledged centers providing imaging services like MRI, CT and Ultrasound.
