Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) of the tongue is the most common type of tongue cancer, accounting for over 90% of cases.

It originates in the thin, flat cells (squamous cells) that line the surface of the tongue.

SCC is a very common cancer in India and a very dominant form of oral cancer. India reports more than 1 lakh cases annually which is the highest among all the world. All this is connected with the high incidence of tobacco usage among Indian population.
