Should patients be encouraged to understand their prescriptions more clearly?

Many patients take medicines exactly as instructed but may not fully understand why they are taking them, how they work, or what precautions they should follow.

Sometimes prescriptions can feel confusing because of medical terminology, multiple medicines, or lack of time during consultations.

When patients understand their treatment better, they may feel more confident, follow instructions properly, and become more involved in their own healthcare decisions.

This shows how patient education can improve not only awareness, but also treatment outcomes and trust.

Question:

Do you think enough importance is given to helping patients truly understand their prescriptions?
