Reading Medico life like a book

Course books are important for theories however, some good reads help to shape your mind and skills while we communicate with patients during clinical rotations. Some of the good reads that can be relevant during clinical rotations could be:-

The Emperor of All Maladies by Siddhartha Mukherjee
A biography of cancer that combines history, science, and patient stories

Being Mortal by Atul Gawande
Discusses aging, palliative care, and end-of-life issues from a deeply human perspective.

The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat by Oliver Sacks
Case studies in neurology are fascinating and touching.

When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi

How Doctors Think by Jerome Groopman
Learn how cognitive errors happen in clinical settings and how to avoid them.

Intern: A Doctor’s Initiation by Sandeep Jauhar
First-hand account of what it’s like to be thrown into clinical life

The Doctor’s Dilemma – George Bernard Shaw
A classic play that challenges the ethics of the medical profession and questions the commercialization of healthcare.

These reads are the inside stories that can help us, as young doctors, gain insight into the lives of senior doctors.
