Polypharmacy in the Elderly Patients

Polypharmacy is the term used to refer as the use of five or more medications simultaneously. its is generally used in elderly patients because of multiple disease/condition such as Hypertension, COPD, Diabetes, etc.

Challenges- Polypharmacy, like ADRs, Drug Interactions, Poor Adherence, Hospitalization.

Solutions- Regular Medication Review, Patient Education, Multidisciplinary Approach.

In my opinion, Polypharmacy is the thing which is done only when it is utmost necessary. It’s become essential for maintaining the quality of life of an elderly people.
With that as we know that every pros have their cons too, this can lead to various side effects as you have mentioned.

So frequent health checkups and monitoring is the best way to control this.
