Almost every Pharm.D student proudly carries the title ‘Doctor’ in front of their name.
As soon as the degree is completed, many rush to update their bio on LinkedIn, Instagram, and every platform possible.
But here’s a question we all need to ask ourselves:
Can we really save a life if a medical emergency happens in front of us?
Let’s Imagine someone suddenly collapses in front of you no pulse & breathing.
As a Pharm.D student, everyone will look at you expecting you to help.
But if you stand quiet , unaware of what to do, what’s the value of that “Doctor” title?
This is exactly why Basic Life Support (BLS) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) are essential skills for every healthcare student, especially for those pursuing Pharm D.
Why Pharm.D Students Must Be Aware of BLS?
1. We’re part of the healthcare system not just medicine experts but potential first responders.
2. Emergencies can happen anywhere hospital wards, classrooms, or public spaces.
3. Every second matters early CPR can double or triple the chances of survival.
4. It strengthens our professional image people trust doctors who can act, not just advise.
BLS Isn’t Complicated — It’s Confidence
Basic Life Support means:
• Checking for response and breathing
• Calling for help
• Performing chest compressions
• Using an AED if available
It’s not about high-end medical knowledge it’s about courage and quick action.
According to me, every Pharm.D student must be aware of Basic Life Support.
If we truly want to be called “Doctors,” we should earn that title not just through academics, but by being ready to save a life whenever needed.
Our education should empower us to act in emergencies, not just prescribe or counsel.
Because the real essence of being a healthcare professional lies in humanity, not just degree.
What’s your opinion?
Should CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) training be made a mandatory part of the Pharm.D syllabus in every college?
