Penicillin was new at that time. I am talking about 1944. Mrs. kasturba Gandhi (Ba) had fallen sick and she was bed ridden in Aga Khan palace in Pune, India. Gandhi ji sensed that she was getting critically sick. Doctors attending on her insisted that she be given penicillin. Vials were flown from Calcutta. But Gandhiji believed in palliative care. From history records, what I remember is that it was not even given to her. Ba died in Feb of 1944.
