Palliative Care: Improving Life Beyond Treatment

Palliative care means improving quality of life (physicially and emotionally ) of the patient as well as family. it focuses on reducing pain to ease the course of treatment, and provide comfort to the patient in serious illnesses like cancer , and cardiovascular patient.

These serious illness not only physically drains the patient but also psychologically weakens the patient and in these conditions the WILL to live also plays a crucial role in the successful result of the treatment given. emotional counselling of patient and their family members is eaqually important and should be stress upon by the hospitals. For this there should be specialized team in every hospital or hospice centers as well.

It is said that Treatment HEALS but Palliative Comforts, and it is true actually , that’s why equally important.

common symptoms that is there that needs to be treated is Pain and Dyspnoea (shortness of breath). Opioids are used for mainly treating pain. But , Opioids can also alleviate other common distressing physical symptoms including breathlessness. Controlling such symptoms at an early stage is an ethical duty to relieve suffering and to respect a person’s dignity.

The use of opioids is highly regulated that initially prevented people in need getting the palliative care but i think it was important also to ensure that there is no overuse. but later some amendments were made and made flexible to get opioids for palliative care and hospice centers.

but what others think on

->Can treatment truly be successful if a patient continues to suffer physically and emotionally?

->Would you consider palliative care a necessity rather than just supportive care?

Sometimes palliative care or treatment is the only option we can provide for the situation. In centres where cancer patients are treated they should be made a necessity as significant patients suffer from terminal illness.
