Globally, pain is the most common reason patients seek medical advice for. Chronic pain is a major Healthcare problem. According to the European Federation of International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP), chronic pain is not a symptom but a disease state by itself. It defines Chronic pain as "Pain that persists beyond normal healing time(usually 3 months).
Current Scenario:-
Chronic Pain not only has a health impact but also a social and economic impact. Nearly 30% of the world’s population suffers from pain. The Pain survey conducted in India revealed an alarming scenario. Prevalence of pain increases with age and affects the female population almost twice as much as males. Although 71.2% patients visit a general practitioner, only 4.8% consulted a specialist pain physician.
With such a vast and underserved population, pain management is evolving into a high-demand specialty. The global pain management market, valued at around 60–66 billion dollars in 2024, is projected to grow to nearly 90–109 billion dollars by 2033.
