Paediatric dose calculation methods

Dillings formula : ( child dose = child age/20 )* Adult dose

Youngs formula : child dose = ( child age / ( childs age +12)* adult dose

Clarks formula = child dose : ( weight of child / 150)* adult dose

Such a well-structured post! The way you broke down each method of paediatric dosing was super helpful.

These formulas are really useful for pharmacy students like me. I didn’t know there were different methods like Dillings, Youngs, and Clarks based on age and weight. The BSA method seems more accurate but needs height and weight. It’s important to choose the right formula depending on the child’s condition. This helps avoid overdose and keeps treatment safe.

Very helpful post!

Very informative.

Great summary of pediatric dose formulas! It’s so important to remember that while these give quick estimates, clinical judgment and patient-specific factors still matter—especially with weight-based or BSA-based drugs. BSA, though a bit harder to calculate, is often the most precise.
