Today I met my friend and she said she want to change her path but she doesn’t know what should she do , she said she wants to do something which should be in demand, I asked why? Nursing doesn’t pays well? She said in healthcare nurses are not respected enough , I felt sorry for her , any suggestions?
She should explore the available options before she fixes on one.
If it’s feasible for her, she can try applying her nursing experience and knowledge abroad, where pay is considered much better. And if she wants to continue in India, she can look for masters in allied fields like biotechnology.
I’m not well aware of nursing field but she could try some business degrees like MBA in healthcare management, MBA in hospital administration, Public Health Analyst, Health Educator, Medical Writer, Health Blogger, Content Strategist, do a Short diploma or certification in Clinical Research or Regulatory Affairs. There’s also masters in clinical embryology which has a lot of scope if done in a good institution. She can also Transition to Tech + Healthcare.
She should explore more and should go in the field that pays well
That’s a myth in India only I guess. But nursing is one of the best option in healthcare services. A little bit of councelling is required and after that she may know what she desires
It’s absolutely normal to feel insecure in our present job.
She could pursue any job that could be related to her degree.
There are many options
Within Healthcare (less direct patient care):
- Educator/Trainer: Teach other nurses.
- Administrator/Manager: Lead healthcare teams or departments.
- Health Informatics: Work with healthcare technology and data.
- Telephone Triage/Nurse Advisor: Provide remote patient advice.
- Occupational Health Nurse: Focus on workplace health and safety.
- Case Manager: Coordinate patient care and resources.
- Clinical Research Nurse: Work on clinical trials.
- Medical Writer: Create healthcare content.
Outside Healthcare (using transferable skills): - Social Worker/Counsellor: Help individuals with personal challenges.
- IT Consultant: Apply tech skills in healthcare or other sectors.
- Guidance Counselor: Advise students on careers and academics.
The best path depends on what aspects she enjoys and what she wants to avoid in a new role.
she could do medical coding , clinical research , healthcare IT OR healthcare digital.
She can do health blogging content creation.
Nursing is the good choice in health care system but it is not a respectable job sonits better try in abroad like saudi arabia uk usa there most required and highly paid and respectable jobs
Yes, nurses are not paid well in the hospital settings. With nursing degree there is a chance to explore more demanding career opportunities…!
She can just look for better options in the same line like try for hospital jobs abroad, or do some course and switch to medical coding or something less hectic.
It is difficult to generalize that nurses are not respected in all healthcare facility. The problem might be lack of interest in her current job so I suggest she has to look for the job that aligns with her interest.
She can look into other healthcare jobs like medical coding, clinical research.
My Suggestion to her is to try for the big hospitals or even could try for the other countries where nursing demand is high.
She can see in which other fields in healthcare is she interested in. Healthcare management, content creation , public health are some the options but she should explore all the options to see what alings the most with her interest
Yeah, i totally got it why she is considering a switch. Nursing is a tough and hard work. She could explore areas like Clinical research, Drug safety and even medical writing. These feilds are really booming right now. Medical coding and some health tech jobs are also some great choice. Since she is familiar with the healthcare. Picking up these skills shouldn’t be challenging also.
If she want to change then she have to . because she is doing this for herself.
Yes their are many medical feild opportunities she can do D pharmacy it of 2 year and start up her own business and dispensing medicine
She may have made this decision of the pressure on it and also due to disrespect . I have seen OT nurses are treated well and also have better salary than other ward nurses. If the nursing field doesn’t suit her, she can go for other options like patient advocacy, medical writing , medical device marketing etc.,
I think she should explore her options further before making any decisions she might regret later.
