If you had to start your medical writing, what is the first thing you should do?
Let’s start with the lowest-hanging fruit today, and then we will figure out the rest later. I will share my personal experience. First I opened my MS Word. Once I had a blank new document, I choosed to write a topic. You can choose ANYTHING.
Let’s say OSTEOPOROSIS. Then I left a few spaces and started listing random things related to Osteoporosis. Prevalence. Incidence. Global picture. Scenario in India. WHO and CDC data. Recommendations…
I have done this process as much as my brain tolerates… and then pushed some more. Then I opened PubMed and searched ‘Osteoporosis’. I made sure that my search is limited to past 10 years. I have downloaded first 5 Open access papers and saved them into a named folder. Then I checked their headings and sub-headings… added to my documents whatever is missing. I have done this with all the articles and got 5 more and repeated the process.
I shared you my rough outline. This will depend based on the type of document you are creating.
Then I started filling the selected categories with researched material and highlighted whatever I selected so that I can later refer.
How did you start your first Medical writing ?
