Which clinical posting (medicine, surgery, pediatrics, etc.) impacted you the most and why?
Medicine posting was an eye opener. The variety of cases that start from a cough complaint to getting admitted in the ICU, patients from all socio-economic strata seeking guidance, learning the right vocabulary to teach the patient of their lifestyle and habits, it was very humbling.
Medicine posting impacted me the most because it was the first time I saw how complex and connected the human body really is.
Unlike other postings where you might focus on just one system, here you had to think about everything. The patient’s story, lab reports, and clinical signs all had to come together like a puzzle.
It also taught me how important it is to listen properly to the patient. Half the diagnosis came from the history alone.
And honestly, seeing the senior residents handle tough cases with calm and confidence made me realise that this is the kind of doctor I want to become.
In Psychiatrist, I saw how emphatic listening can open the hidden talk.
Surgical posting make the decisive ability
Paediatrics because it showed that doctors don’t just heal the patients , they also have to manage their parents and train them .
Gynecology and Obstetrics
It was the only place where everyone knew their role and did it properly.
I think dealing with the lives of 2 individuals made everyone more responsible.
I saw exceptional teamwork and it is how I hoped the rest would be, but the rest were disappointing.
