Proper waste disposal is very important for prevention of injuries like needlestick injuries. As young doctors it is very important for us to know which color is assigned for a particular type of medical waste.

Many clinics are not adhering to the guidelines and are only using those colored bins during inspections. What do you think is stopping them from following these guidelines?

I think white bins are also used for disposing sharp objects.

It may be due to lack of awareness.
They are not aware about the infectious spread and it’s control.
For saving money. Some may think not to spread more on buying different colours of bins, instead they put it altogether in one bin. It may lead to insufficient equipments.
It may be due to lack if disposal or segregation process, they refuse to follow the medical waste disposal guidelines.

Yes, I still remember on the first day of our surgery class we were handed over these flyers of waste disposal according to colour, with a small briefing.
