As part of the MedBound Hub’s Journal Club Monthly Program, today’s session will focus on understanding and critically appraising a case-control study:
“Oral Cancer and Tobacco: A Case Control Study in Southern India”
We will explore:
How to identify a case-control study
What makes a good case and a good control
Understanding Odds Ratios and Confidence Intervals
Identifying bias and confounding
Interpreting results beyond statistical significance
Applying the STROBE framework for critical appraisal
Most importantly, we will discuss how to move from simply reading a paper to evaluating the quality of evidence it provides.
