Is math just about playing with numbers or is it something far greater?
Mathematics, a word that used to haunt me as a child. I never understood the obsession of my parents with solving the math worksheet on a daily basis. At first glance, it looks like a subject dealing with numbers, formulas and lots of calculations. But it is much more than just a subject. In the real world, its application lies in creating logical thinking, determining patterns and developing problem- solving skills. You must have heard of the Beauty number or the Golden ratio (1.618) that is associated with balance, harmony and beauty in everything around us. This ratio is seen in the arrangement of leaves, spirals of seashells, patterns of sunflowers, etc. And how can we forget about pi (approx 3.14), a number holding the secrets of the universe. A subject so beautiful cannot be confined to just numbers.
Brain booster:
Studying math does more than improve calculation skills. It actually shapes your brain.
MRI studies have shown that students who regularly engage with mathematics develop stronger activity in brain regions responsible for problem-solving, logical reasoning and numerical thinking. Researchers were able to identify math students from brain scans with over 90% accuracy. Math acts as a workout for the brain by strengthening the neural pathways that support critical thinking and analytical skills.
