LinkedIn - Does it matter or not?

LinkedIn is considered an essential part of many competitive fields like IT/ CSE and many other streams of commerce and humanities.

However, I haven’t seen a lot of medical professionals on there. Or at least don’t update it as often. What is your opinion on medical professionals using LinkedIn?

It matters for networking when it comes to research and when it comes to changing to non clinical path like hospital management.
Also for fields like medical writing freelance , it can be helpful

As a medical student, I’ve noticed LinkedIn isn’t widely used in our field, but I believe it’s a powerful tool for networking, research visibility, and exploring interdisciplinary opportunities.

LinkedIn can be a powerful yet underused tool for medical professionals. While it’s true that doctors and med students often don’t prioritize it—busy with rounds, exams, and research—the platform offers more than just job hunting. It’s a space to showcase achievements, connect with mentors, share medical insights, and stay updated on global healthcare trends. For those aiming for international exams, fellowships, or interdisciplinary collaborations, a well-kept LinkedIn can quietly open doors. It’s not about self-promotion—it’s about visibility in a field where your work often speaks quietly but deserves to be heard.

LinkedIn is great for networking… but also it depends on people you connect with and follow… there are many medical professionals who are active as much as the humanities & IT people

It definitely has less opportunities for medical field students.
But it is a great platform to build networks , overall it is a decent platform.

I think the greater your connections, the greater are chances of getting recruited on LinkedIn. However, I too have found that medical professionals are not very active on this platform and those who are available are less likely to be helpful.

Being a final year medical student, I have started my journey on LinkedIn when I was in third year.
And this lead to drastic changes.

I got to connect with lot of professionals, able to get guidance on various things.

Even I got to know about my interest in medical writing after creating content posts on it.

So yes, it matters to showcase your talent, passion, interests, work and to get the opportunities.
