Many medical students focus on mainstream specialties like Medicine, Surgery, or Pediatrics — but less-popular fields like PM&R, Palliative Care, and Transfusion Medicine are growing globally. What do you think stops students from considering these specialties, and how can awareness about their value and scope be improved?
I believe it is about the aesthetics of calling yourself a specialist in the fields more popularly known to people as the ‘hard to get into’ or ‘in-demand’.

There are many reasons for this:
- Students lack awareness about these specialities
- Lack of research or knowledge before getting into pg counseling
- The age old tradition of moving with the crowd( choosing the branch with is most commonly taken up by students)

These fields address growing healthcare needs due to aging populations and increasing chronic diseases worldwide. Specialists in these areas help reduce hospital stays, healthcare costs, and improve overall patient outcomes.
