This month, we spotlight two often-overlooked yet lifesaving areas of healthcare:
Vision Protection and Cord Blood Donation.
VISION AWARENESS
Did you know that optic nerve damage is often irreversible and silent in its early stages?
Symptoms like blurry vision, dimness, or color fading are not just screen fatigue.
They’re warning signs your eyes are sending, don’t ignore them.
Regular check-ups can literally save your sight.
CORD BLOOD AWARENESS
Collected at birth, cord blood is rich in life-saving stem cells.
These cells are already being used to treat:
Leukemia
Lymphoma
Sickle Cell Disease
Immune Deficiencies
…and many more.
Yet, millions of parents remain unaware of its potential.
This July, let’s spread the word and empower choices that can save lives

Yes, the stem cell preservation can help to save lives in haematological and immune disorders.
But the cost is too high if we opt for it. Maybe that is one reason people are still hesistant to go for it.

Good topic, Manisha.
July is National Cord Blood Awareness Month. I remember when I came to the US in 2002 - 2003, that time umbilical cord blood banking had just started and it was a hot topic. Over the years this has become an established science.
In the US there are about 40 plus banks, they are called cord blood banks and majority of them are public, that means non-profit and about 17 to 18 are private cord blood banks. Cord blood is a rich source of stem cells and with stem cells as we know we can treat so many kinds of diseases. Cord blood has now become more preferable than bone marrow as a source of stem cells in transplant patients and about 25% of all stem cell transplants come from cord blood units rather than from the bone marrow.
It’s a good thing and I’m not sure how is the scenario in India but cord blood banking is a good thing to do and parents should be encouraged to do this.
